About

Timecentres UK draws on over 30 years’ experience of working with people and communities.  Recognised nationally and internationally as an innovative organisation working in the areas of sustainable development and regeneration, delivering projects that help to tackle societies main challenges of poverty, disadvantage and climate change. We largely work collaboratively with other like-minded organisations and we support people in communities and organisations that support them to create positive change and social impact.

Timecentres UK is a social enterprise and a community development project rolled into one successful and creative organisation. Based in South Wales – our reach is UK National and International.  We have developed and advised projects in China, Japan and Croatia.

The Power Of Community

Timecentres UK is interested in the power of community, how people can transform their places by building connections based on recognising their strengths and valuing each other.

We are interested in grassroots economics - what goes on at the very heart of communities where small differences create big impact.

We work to bring people together to build networks built on empowerment of people to work together to create better lives for themselves and their people.

Building On The Strengths Within Communities

We believe that there has been an important partner missing in addressing some of the issues we are experiencing in our communities – the people who live in these communities.  Communities are full of talents, skills, energy and resources but there are not always the opportunity to put these to work. We recognise that people in communities are experts in their lives and can be a creative force for positive change.

The Values of Hourcoin

People Are Assets

All people have the potential to make a positive contribution to the community.

Redefining Work

The work that people are willing to do to help each other and their community is valued and celebrated.

Mutuality

A two-way relationship with opportunities to both give and receive, building healthy and more equal relationships with professional workers/agencies and each other. People need opportunities to give to their communities, to work in partnership with agencies and to be recognised for their work by the wider community.

Social Networks

Healthy communities have strong social networks. People are supported to become an active and integrated part of their wider community. We have built these values into Hourcoin that recognises and put these values into action. People's skills are activated to benefit the community where their contribution is recognised and valued, these are necessary for creating social change.

“In economics, a time-based currency is an alternative currency  where the unit of exchange is the person-hour”.

Work To Date

A two-way relationship with opportunities to both give and receive, building healthy and more equal relationships with professional workers/agencies and each other. People need opportunities to give to their communities, to work in partnership with agencies and to be recognised for their work by the wider community.
